This course introduces the concepts and principles of data communications and computer networking. Topics covered include the ISO seven-layer model, data transmission over wires and wireless links, data encoding, data link control, multiplexing, local and wide area networks, network topologies, routing, bridges and gateways, circuit switching, packet switching, frame relay, asynchronous transfer mode (ATM), ISDN, and communications reliability and security.
